To The Moms Who Don't Have a Pinterest Home

Updated: Apr 26, 2019

I was visiting my sister today when I picked up a book called Cozy Minimalist Home. While reading it, I had an epiphany, but I will tell you more about that later.

I always read and drooled over the cute Pinterest homes and wished I could be like them. So many times I have tried to create the cute look in my home and failed. For years I have been frustrated and embarrassed by my home. I also have to admit that I had a healthy dose of jealousy as well. So many times I have loved something, brought it home, only to feel discouraged and to return it to the store because it just did not work. I felt that everyone else had a secret decorating training I never got or they just had more money than me. Life seemed so unfair! I want a cute house too! have always read and drooled over the cute Pinterest homes and wished I could be like them. So many times I have tried to create the cute look in my home and failed. I felt that everyone else had a secret decorating training I never got or they just had more money than me. Life seemed so unfair! I want a cute house too!

Now it is time to get back to my epiphany today. I do have style and taste and my house is not full of junk after all. In the book she states that we are "Chief home curator: protector of what comes in and what goes out. She keeps in mind the overall goal and purpose of the space." Wow! That makes me feel capable and important. My style might not match anyone else's, but it is my style. I should be proud and stop trying to copy other people . Myquillyn states "We need homes that truly serve us and our families, homes that look the way we want them to look so we can use them the way we feel called to use them."

That is what I have been doing for 25 years. I consider function and design and decorate around it. My home might not have tons on cutesy art, but that is because I have 10 kids. I will say that I have time of chairs and great books to read. My house is a fun place to be and we enjoy it. That is better than any Pinterest copied house that I can't live in. I have reached my goal and I am living in my style right now. Myquillyn states "Do you want to love your home? Stop decorating like someone else."

"Families change quickly, and you don't have to wait around for perfection to enjoy your home together." I might not have tons of cool things right now, but this is a small moment. My kids will grow and our family needs will change and so will my decorating of our home.

I will still drool over the different beautiful homes I see, but now it is different. When I come home I stop the negative head talk and smile at my unique style that is truly like nobody else. My school backpack decor, used furniture, and much loved kids artwork are priceless. I honestly love my home and even though it will never be on Pinterest as an example, it is warm and welcomes everyone who comes in.

I included a picture of my sister's home which is an inspiration to me. It is so cozy, nicely decorated, and organized. I love being here.
